new orleans shots

some shots from this past weekend in new orleans. although the quarter & faubourg marigny seemed normal, when you get outside of the tourist areas things STILL do not look good. there are still vast areas of devastation.

BUT... i noticed there are a LOT of young people in the city now- back to bring it back- and it reminded me of being there in the 1960s. bohemia seems to be back in abundance... which is a good thing.

man asleep in a lawn chair- frenchmen street

musicians- jackson square

abandoned house- mid city

mandina's- still good- still air conditioned- and still packed & still loud as hell!

tipitina's- a rip off show- supposed to be a "new orleans all-stars" event- but there were some 'no shows' and the few 'all stars' were tired as hell, doing the same old schtick i've seen them do since the 70s!

i shot this house during mardi gras 2006- after katrina- but from the car. i got out this time and shot it. before it said " no fema help" but someone has painted over 'fema'... so now it says "no help new orleans"
blowing my diet at cafe du monde- but i only had 1 beignet instead of the normal portion of 3! but kept the 'au lait' in the cafe!
